About Us
DAMSELS Inc is a non-profit organization striving to promote life-changing success for women who have been incarcerated by providing them with opportunities for personal and professional development. We encourage women to reach their full potential in business, education, and in their personal lives.
Women who have been incarcerated are faced with more responsibility than the average woman. They are restarting careers, balancing families, and rebuilding a social life while continuously fighting for opportunities and justice. Because of their high level of need, female offenders are likely to encounter tremendous obstacles when they re-enter the community.
Our mission is to promote and enhance the value, status and influence of women who have been incarcerated by providing SHOES of success.
Shoes provide the foundation for the image that we want to broadcast to the world. We wear them as a way to play with aspects of our identity in a less committed way than any other visible marker such as a haircut or color. We can change that message every day or more if we choose, by changing our shoes. A pair of flats shows our stability, pumps tell the world we are all business, and high heels declare elegance.
Most women will tell you that they love their shoes because of the way the shoes make them feel. We have an obsession with shoes!
DAMSELS provides upscale shoes to women who have been incarcerated and returning to the community to help them feel empowered.
It is through shoes that a woman can define herself. The shoe is able to shape the image presented to the world, while simultaneously shaping the woman.
